Unauthorized Savings Accounts

VIVAnews - Prior to the 2009 elections, parties and campaign teams of presidential candidates will seek for campaign funds. Member of Working Committee at the Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) Adnan Topan Husodo said that the Elections Commission should be aware of the unofficial savings accounts of campaign funds.

"Unofficial funds would be everywhere prior to the elections," Adnan told reporters at the Media Center of Elections Commission, Jalan Imam Bonjol, Jakarta.

According to Adnan, as occurred in the 2004 elections, the campaign fund transactions did not utilize official savings accounts registered at the Commission. He said that countless campaign funds are received by shadow campaign teams. "Therefore, ICW demands that the Commission prepares regulation stipulating listing of unofficial savings accounts belonging to campaign teams," he said.

In addition, the Elections Commission and Elections Monitoring Board should collaborate with Indonesia Financial Transation Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) to anticipate illegal funds from being transfered to said saving accounts. "Including the chance to peek into banks accounts," he said.
