VIVAnews - The Indonesian Police stated that robbery and terrorist action in Medan, North Sumatra, was designed by Toni Togar from behind the bars.

"Toni Togar is a head of Mujahidin Indonesia who masterminded the series of crimes in Medan. [Toni] controlled everything from the jail," Chief of Indonesian Police Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri told a press release today in Jakarta.

Toni is imprisoned at the Siantar Penitentiary, North Sumatra, for involving in various terrorist acts in Indonesia. "Toni was sentenced 20 years of imprisonment on June 11, 2003," said Danuri.

Police claimed that Toni Togar's track records in terrorism are excellent. He had once joined in a military training in Al-Jama'ah Al-Islamiah academy in Afghanistan in 1995.

Toni was also involved in the bombings of some churces in Pekan Baru, Riau, on the Christmas Eve of the year 2000. "The incidents were under the coordination of Hambali, a senior figure in Jamaah Islamiyah," said Danuri.

Based on Police records, Danuri said Toni kept committing acts of terrorism until 2003. In 2003, Toni was embroilled in the bank break of Bank Lippo in Medan prior to the JW Marriott bombings in Jakarta.

Due to the alleged involvement in the Medan case, the police decided to bring Toni to Jakarta for further investigation.

In addition to Toni, the police also targets another man named Taufik Marzuki aka Abu Sayyaf, whose hideout has been spotted.
