VIVAnews - The Indonesia National Narcotics Board (BNN) detained Chief of Nusakambangan Narcotics Penitentiary, Marwan Adli, as well as other prison officers under drug dealing charges.

After conducting thorough investigation toward Marwan, the Board took the prison chief to Jakarta along with other six suspects, according to BNN spokesperson, Sumirat, today, March 11.

The scandal broke out after the BNN probed into two cases of drug trafficking which is linked to international dealers which involved Hartoni, an inmate in Nusakambangan. Probes show that the local narcotics syndicate points to a drug syndicate in Nepal.

The BNN found out that Hartoni has at times transferred funds to Marwan through a third party bank account whose holder is Marwan's own grandchild. It was alleged that the money was used to bribe prison officials.

Earlier, Director of BNN Natural Narcotics, Beni J Mamoto, said in addition to cell phones, devices used to improve better call reception were also discovered installed in the prison complex.

BNN officers also spotted meths at an assimilation compound in Nusakambangan. Nonetheless, Marwan claimed that the illicit materials will be eliminated.
