VIVAnews - Research agency Nielsen noted that the growth in mini-mart numbers along 2010 climbed 42 percent compared to 2009. Today, total mini-mart numbers nationwide reach 17 thousand. The rapid growth is set off by the change in consumption patterns, which indicates fall on shopping concentration in modern trade.

"[Consumers] hold back from spending more in larger marts, for greater shopping passion grows in bigger marts," said Nielsen Executive Director of Retail Measurement Services, Teguh Yunanto, in Jakarta today, March 15.

Nielsen Retail Establishment Survey recorded that compared to 2009 modern trade improves by 38 percent at 18,152 stores across Indonesia. The growth is backed up by the increase in mini-mart numbers to 16,922.

78 percent of modern marts are concentrated in Java at 35 percent of growth. Sumatra measures the highest growth by 55 percent while other islands hit 42 percent.

However, traditional markets still sit on the top list at 2.4 million in numbers.
