VIVAnews – Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Ministry revealed that apart from Ruyati binti Satubi who was recently executed in Saudi Arabia, there are 303 Indonesian defendants who have been facing death sentence from 1999 to 2011. Out of 303 defendants, three have been executed, two in Saudi Arabia and one in Egypt.
Malaysia is the country which holds the largest number of case of Indonesians facing death sentence, that is 233 defendants. China comes second, with 29 defendants and Saudi Arabia third, with 28 defendants.
Out of 303, 216 defendants are still in the trial process. Malaysia is the country which processes the trials of most of those defendants, with 177 cases. China is at the second position, with 20, and Saudi Arabia, 17.
The Ministry’s data shows that illegal drugs is the factor of most of the cases involving Indonesian defendants. Murder came next, with 85 cases.
Country-wise, in Saudi Arabia murder is the main cause of death sentence possibility for Indonesian migrant workers.
There are 22 murder charges against the workers. In Malaysia, drug abuse cases put 180 Indonesian workers under death sentence threat. Murder is at the second position, with 50 cases.
