VIVAnews - Army Chief of Staff Pramono Edhie Wibowo said he would take military approach toward the parties that disrupt TNI’s activities. Edhi stressed this in response to the shooting of TNI officers in Papua some time ago.
"To those who disrupt us we will take a military approach," he explained on Wednesday, August 3.
According to Edhi, Free Papua Movement (OPM) individuals who attacked TNI in Papua were not satisfied with the TNI’s village development (TMMD) activities conducted in Papua. He explained that the TNI officers who were shot were members of the TMMD program. TNI chose areas which were likely to be influenced by the OPM for the program.
"They launched the attack because of the effects of TMMD activities," he added.
He assumed that the OPM was disturbed by TMMD activities because OPM had promised the local residents earlier of building houses. However, then without making any promise the TNI came and built houses under the TMMD program. The Army Chief of Staff went on to say that the shot military personnel, were those who participated in the TMMD program.
"The victims were TMMD members," he added.
Due to the shooting incident, the security will be elevated to avoid similar incidents. Whether the military personnel there was less and thus TNI became vulnerable, he answered that for TMMD program, the number of TNI personnel in Papua was in fact increased. "Nobody can disturb the people’s activities," he said.
