Indonesia Stock Exchange Opens 100 Pts Lower

VIVAnews - The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) stocks fell this morning, August 8, up to more than 100 points.

According to Robin Setiawan, analyst at PT Valbury Asia Securities, the decrease was a result of a plunge in Asian stocks today after the historic downgrade of the US credit rating.

Standard & Poor's downgrade of the US sovereign credit rating to AA+ from the top-notch AAA - announced late Friday - is another blow to confidence in the struggling US economy.

"The news sends negative sentiments over global and regional markets," he said on Monday, August 8. 

The Jakarta stock prices weakened 64.54 points or 1.65 percent to 3,857.09. However, a minute after the opening, the fall continued and brought the index to 3,808.
