VIVAnews - Hundreds of Kampung Bojong Koneng residents, Ciherang Pondok Village, Caringin, Bogor, had to queue for clean water in public toilet facilities. Ciherang and other villages in Bogor District are in drought as it had not yet rained.
Carrying buckets and jerry cans, the residents scrambled to have clean water. "Yes, this is the only public toilet here. What’s worse, the water smells," said Halima, a mother who stood in line, Monday.
In Kampung Bojong Koneng there is only one public toilet that was built with Bogor regency government’s assistance. The spring originates from a nearby village stream which is channeled through 700 meters-long pipeline.
"For the past three months the residents’ wells have been dry. The residents had to scrambled for water in MCK for bathing, washing or toilet. But people still have difficulties to find clean water to drink because the spring is from the river," said Ciherang Pondok village chief, Saprudin Jepri.
According to Saprudin, drought regularly occur every year. "We will report this to the regional government. Because the number of public toilet is not comparable with the number of population, which reaches 1200 families," he said.
Earlier, he said, Bogor’s region-owned drinking water company Tirta Pakuan distributed water for them. However, it was deemed less effective. "In the future we will propose the construction of underground wells. And people are already ready to pay," he added.
Based on the observation, besides the residents’ wells, many rice fields also begin to dry with the soil starts cracking. The regions which are experiencing drought are villages in Caringin, Ciawi, Cigombong, and Cijeruk districts.
