VIVAnews - Security officers forced out a People of Papua Congress III on Wednesday, Oct 19, on Sakeus Field, Padang Bulan Abepura, Papua. Two men were killed during the violent act.
A university student named Melkias Kadepa was found dead on a plantation near a military command post today while another dead victim was identified as member of Penjaga Tanah Papua (Petapa).
Deputy Chief of Papua Human Rights Commission, Matius Murib, said the news is verifiable. "Dead victims are found following the congress dismissal. A post-mortem report is being prepared to find out whether or not the victim was killed by gunshot," he said.
Scores of people were also injured by gun-beating committed by police and military personnel. "There are many people who are suffering from injuries. Police still hold 300 people in captivity," he said.
Matius said the security officers prioritized repressive acts in anticipating the congress. "Police did not give high priority to deal with them not in persuasive ways," he said.
Police spokesperson Chief Comm. Wachyono said several participants of the congress have been named suspects. "Five men are officially declared suspects," he said.
