Ship Sinks on Indonesia Waters, Killing Six

VIVAnews - A wooden fishing boat carrying illegal immigrants from Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan heading toward Australia sank off waters of West Java of Indonesia on Tuesday, killing at least six and scores others were wounded.  

The boat departed from Pangandaran of West Java , heading to Kupang of East Nusa Tenggara. All dead victims were of Iranian descent.

"The six killed passengers were Iranian nationals. They were four adults and two children," said Ciamis Chief of Police Department, Chief Comm. Agus Santoso.

The evacuation managed to secure 53 passengers, consisting of 23 men, 21 women and three ship crews.

The accident injured 23 passengers. "Those dead victims are brought to Pangandaran health center," he said.

Earlier, Ciamis Chief of Military Area Command, Lieut. Col. Asep Junaedi, said the ship transported tens of passengers, having Australia as their final destination.
