VIVAnews - A researcher at Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Muridan S. Widjojo, said the government should hold dialogue with local Papua figures to solve on-going problems in the province following political distrust toward the state.

"It's important to set dialogue to figure out the core of the problem," he said.

A discourse surfaces, putting emphasis on Papua's poor wellbeing as being the main cause of disintegration issue that has been collectively pushed out. "They are indeed against the statement. Dialogue is needed," he said.

LIPI's research says that there are four root causes of disintegration issue in Papua. First, the Papuans believe that Papua's integration into Indonesia has been politically and historically in the vague. "The Papuans thought that they did not undergo a proper integration process," Muridan said.

Second, Papua has been under military operations since 1965 of which state violence and human rights violations are inevitable. "Every Papuan has to bear serious collective wounds," said Muridan.

Third, the Papuans are seen as marginalized people. "Migration and development did not draw in the locals. That way, they will feel marginalized," said Muridan.

Four, Papua witnesses failure in its development. It is common in the province to find schools with no teachers and health centers with no doctors.
