VIVAnews – Around 200 people set the house of West Papua Governor, Abraham O Ataruri, on fire on Tuesday following the Constitutional Court's verdict on local elections in the area.
“13 people were arrested,” said Papua Police spokesman, Chief Comm. Wachyono in a text message, today, Dec 21.
Wachyono said that people blocked the house located on Jalan Trikora Rendani, Manokwari before they set it on fire yesterday. They also brought all kinds of weapons, such as arrows, chopping knives and cutting machines. At 10 a.m local time, people began to closed off the road towards the house. Four hours later, they burnt the house.
The back of the house is completely burnt down. Some windows were shattered and some vehicles were damaged. “The estimated loss is around Rp7 billion,” he said.
The police sent 195 personnel to secure the governor’s house.
“Police has also consolidated with related institutions for counseling local community leaders. The situation is under control,” he said.
