VIVAnews - Police shot five alleged terrorists to death in Bali on Sunday night, March 18. All men were suspected of being linked to a terrorist network which earlier robbed a Bank CIMB Niaga of Medan, North Sumatra.
Chief of National Anti-terrorism Agency (BNPT) Ansyaad Mbai said the killed five were part of Jamaah Anshorud Tauhid (JAT) network that cleric Abu Bakar Ba'asyir founded. "Who else can be the terrorists of Solo which resembled the ones [robbing] CIMB but those of JAT members?" said Ansyaad today, March 19.
Ansyaad said the shot men are still connected to a terrorist network which broke into a Bank CIMB Niaga of Medan, in 2010. In Solo, the group set out a suicide bombing at Bethel Injil Sepenuh (GBIS) Church of Kepunton, Solo, Central Java, on 25 September 2011.
"All men are registered in police's list of fugitives," he said.
Police have monitored the said men within the past three months.
He claimed other men managed to escape the raid and left Bali for other provinces.
JAT Media Center Director, Son Hadi, denied allegations saying that the alleged killed terrorists are tied to the organization. "It's always been like this. No preliminary evidence is found. Yet, JAT is always mentioned," he told VIVAnews.
