VIVAnews - Mount Lokon of Kota Tomohon, North Sulawesi, erupted today at 10.20 local time.
Spokesperson of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said a tremor following the eruption spread to five kilometers off Tompuloan. "People don't have to seek refuge yet," he said.
However, the authority has prohibited any activity from taking place within the radius of 2.5 km. "More eruptions may occur in no time," he went on to say.
The BNPB officers are available near the volcano to consult with North Sulawesi and Kota Tomohon disaster management agencies.
The volcano has seen signs of eruptions as of Monday, April 23. The Geological Disaster Mitigation and Volcanology Agency indicated rise in activities of Mount Lokon.
The precaution was delivered to the Head of North Sulawesi Disaster Management Agency.
