Bilateral Swap From Japan Doubles

VIVAnews - The Indonesian government was granted a bilateral swap from Japan valued at US$12 billion compared to the previous US$6 billion. The increase in the bilateral swap was approved through an agreement signed by Bank of Japan and Bank Indonesia.

The rise in the bilateral swap agreement value is in line with the Chiang Mai Initiative, according to a press release announced by Bank Indonesia on Monday, April 6.

"Using the agreement, Indonesia may swap the Rupiah/US dollar having maximum value of US$12 billion, doubles the previous amount of US$6 billion, which functions as a reserve if there were short-term liquidity assistance," stated the press release. 

Indonesia and Japan signed the bilateral swap for the first time in 2003. The increase in the agreement's value showed that the solidarity between the ASEAN+3 countries in maintaining regional financial stability amidst global economic downturn.
