Golkar to Support the Presidential Elections

VIVAnews - Chairperson of the Functional Group (Golkar) Party Jusuf Kalla said that Golkar will not boycott the next presidential election. Nonetheless, Kalla asked that a thorough investigation of the alleged manipulation on final voter list (DPT) should be carried out.

Kalla also urged the General Elections Commission to fix DPT problems during the coming presidential election.

"I think [boycotting] is not the point. The important things are investigation and improvement [of the system]," said he after a meeting with Wiranto in Central Jakarta on Friday, April 24.

Kalla added that Golkar will participate in the presidential election and hopes that DPT will be improved prior to the election.

Meanwhile, Wiranto said that a plan to boycott the presidential election has only been taken into consideration by several political parties. But if the commission and government do not improve fast, eight political parties have agreed to enforce five firmer agreements.

"What's the point of a competition if the rules are unaccountable?" he said.
