"The availability of our sacrificial animals is still in surplus from the predicted need for Eid al-Adha’s Qurban this year," said Director of Animal Breeding and Production of the Ministry of Agriculture, Agung Suganda, in the FMB9 discussion which was followed from Jakarta by online on Wednesday, June 29, 2022.

According to Agung, the number of sacrificial animals needed this year is predicted to reach 1.8 million heads, while the availability of animals is at 2.27 million heads. So, Indonesia still has a surplus of around 469 thousand heads.

The availability of sacrificial animals nationally is sufficient, but if it is broken down on a provincial basis, the number of regions has a deficit of sacrificial animals such as in DKI Jakarta, Jambi, Bangka Belitung, North Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan.

The Ministry of Agriculture already has an engineering distribution channel for needs in areas experiencing a deficit of sacrificial animals.

He explained that the sacrificial animals originating from the red area were only to meet the needs of slaughtering in that area and were prohibited from leaving the red zone. Sacrificial animals from the yellow area can be distributed between the yellow areas.

"Meanwhile, animals from green areas can be distributed to green areas and yellow areas," he said.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture also recommends that people in areas with limited availability of sacrificial animals can make sacrifices online through official qurban organizers.

But we are still trying to fulfill the availability of sacrificial animals as needed. Insya Allah, nationally, we are sure that the availability of our sacrificial animals is still sufficient, even in surplus," he said.
