VIVA – The National Sports Week (PON) XXI in 2024 North Sumatra-Aceh is expected to create the best Indonesian athletes for Olympics 2044. Therefore, the Indonesian government has prepared a National Sports Grand Design (DBON) that must be adapted by each region.
The chairman of the Central KONI, Marciano Norman, revealed this during the inauguration of the Head of the PON 2024 Grand Committee (PB) for the North Sumatra region, Edy Rahmayadi at the Tengku Rizal Nurdin Hall, the official residence of the Governor of North Sumatra on Thursday, July 28, 2022.
According to Marciano, the government expects PON XXI to be better than the previous results to be able to compete in the upcoming Olympics.
"Our target is to rapidly increase our ranking in the upcoming Olympics, out of position 50, in 2032 in the top 10 and in 2044 in the top five. Therefore, PON XXI 2024 must be better than before, the results are expected to be visible and measurable,” Marciano remarked.

Despite having limited time in preparation for the XXI North Sumatra-Aceh PON. However, Marciano is optimistic that the sporting offense every four years can run successfully.
“We don't have much time and this PON is different from the previous PON, the first time it was conducted in two provinces. Not only that. At this PON, we really want to see the results of each region's development, not with the 'athlete gathering'," Marciano remarked.
After undergoing his inauguration as Chairman of PB PON XXI, Governor Edy held a meeting followed by all PB PON North Sumatra region. The XXI Aceh-North Sumatra PON will be held at the end of 2024, which means the committee only has approximately three years.
Therefore, Edy Rahmayadi asked the entire committee to pursue all preparations from the venue, accommodation, transportation, consumption and the competition itself.
“This is a big event; we have to prepare really well. Imagine, one contingent can be up to 500 people and we have to think about all of its readiness," Governor Edy remarked.
Edy Rahmayadi also explained that the inauguration of the 2024 PB PON Aceh-North Sumatra Region will make it easier for his party to work. Through this inauguration, the movement of PB PON 2024 in the North Sumatra Region will have a clear legal umbrella.
“We really need this, legality. We have done a lot of preparation beforehand, have prepared various schemes and plans, with this legality our steps will be smoother,” Edy Rahmayadi said.
