The military announced that the Burkina Faso air border area had been reopened. On Sunday, most of the Ouagadougou region was in a state of calm.

Previously, various points in the capital of Burkina Faso on Saturday, October 1, 2022, were hit by gunfire between opposing military groups. The country's military is divided. Many soldiers seemed to want the support of Russia as the influence of the French colonial powers in Burkina Faso waned.

Traore's group had previously asked the crowd to stop attacks on the French embassy. The embassy was the target of protests after an officer said that France was housing Damiba at a French military headquarters in Burkina Faso.

Protests were also launched because Damiba was said to be planning a counterattack.

"We urge you to continue with your activities and refrain from committing violence and vandalism, especially against the French embassy and French military bases," the army officer said.

Damiba also staged a coup earlier this year against the civilian government, which has lost support over increasing violence by hardliners. Damiba's failure to stop a barrage of attacks by the groups has raised anger within the armed forces of Burkina Faso, a country that was once a French protectorate.
