VIVA – The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) stated that the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) in the cellphone industry had a good increase. The Ministry of Industry stated that cellphones are indeed one of the products carried out in the 35 percent import substitution program.
Along with the implementation of the Domestic Component Level (TKDN), the performance of the cellphone handheld computer and tablet computer (HKT) product industry continues to experience a positive trend.
In addition to the import substitution program, the Ministry of Industry also prepares a Commodity Balance for 25 electronic products with the highest import values, including mobile phones and their components.
"Based on the roadmap that has been prepared, the Ministry of Industry targets the assembly of HKT products to be completely knocked down (CKD) from this year to 2025," Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said on Sunday, October 30, 2022.
Another effort being made is creating an ecosystem for the casing, battery, antenna, and peripheral industries. The Ministry of Industry sees that there is still a great opportunity to increase the value of TKDN through structural deepening.
According to the roadmap prepared by the Ministry of Industry, currently, the battery packing and cable industry is available domestically. This means that these components have been produced domestically.
"We believe, with the help and collaboration of HKT industry stakeholders, we can realize the roadmap," Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita remarked.
The Ministry of Industry appreciates Xiaomi Indonesia for achieving a TKDN value of 40.3% for the Redmi A1 smartphone.
"Through the achievement of TKDN with the highest manufacturing scheme in the industry today, Xiaomi has exceeded the TKDN requirement of 35% for 4G and 5G-based telecommunication devices as regulated in Minister of Communication and Informatics Regulation No. 13 of 2021," Expert Staff of the Minister for Business Climate and Investment, Andi Rizaldi remarked while representing the Minister of Industry attended the launch of the Xiaomi Redmi A1 some time ago.

As a smartphone that has a TKDN of 40.3%, Redmi A1 covers various aspects such as manufacturing (providing production machines, using local labor, adding SMT processes for PCB assembly), product development for software locally, as well as application development in collaboration with local partners.
"The Ministry of Industry hopes for Xiaomi Indonesia to be more active in contributing to innovation through mobile devices that can support government programs in 4G network distribution for the community, especially the 3T community (leading, outermost, and underdeveloped)," he stated.
