VIVA – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has encouraged housing integrated with transit-oriented development (TOD) in Indonesian big cities.
"I have asked the related parties to build TOD housing concept not only in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek). But also in another city, such as Surabaya, Medan, Semarang, Bandung, Makassar, especially in cities with high traffic jam intensity," the President stated during inaugurating millennial housing in Depok, West Java, on Thursday.
President Jokowi also stated TOD housing will make it easier for people to access various destinations by using mass transportation to reduce congestion.

"It can quickly reach all the desired points, for example; going to college is near, going to the hospital is near, going to the middle of the city just enter the Electric rail train (KRL), it will arrive in 10-15 minutes," he explained.
In addition, the President also encouraged the construction of vertical housing to fulfill the housing needs of the people.
"Indeed, what is needed by big cities, not only for Jabodetabek but also big cities throughout the country must, first, build vertical housing upwards," he stated.
