Jakarta – Foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have agreed to recommend Vision 2045 of Inauguration by leaders at the 43rd ASEAN Summit.

"The foreign ministers agreed to recommend to the leaders several documents, including the ASEAN Vision 2045," the Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said after the ASEAN Foreign Ministerial Meeting in Jakarta on Monday.

ASEAN Vision 2045 was initiated by Indonesia as ASEAN chair this year, as a new guide for ASEAN after 2025 through ASEAN Concord IV.

In addition to the vision, the 43rd ASEAN Summit will produce concrete documents related to decision-making procedures in emergency situations, as well as cooperation in the fields of food security, energy, health, digital economy, and maritime, Minister Marsudi explained.

During the meeting, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers also welcomed Luxembourg's intention to accede to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation (TAC), accepted Morocco as a sectoral partner, and accepted the Netherlands as a development partner.

ASEAN has produced two declarations known as Bali Concord I in 1976 and Bali Concord II in 2003.

The Bali Concord I document is a TAC that regulates the pattern of behavior among member states to prioritize peaceful means in resolving disputes among them, rather than using force.

In 2003, Bali Concord II was the ASEAN agreement to build a community based on political and security pillars, economic pillars, and socio-cultural pillars.

The declaration resulted in the ASEAN Charter that established the association as a rules-based organization, as well as a forerunner to the establishment of the ASEAN Community.

Meanwhile, the 2011 ASEAN Summit in Nusa Dua produced the Bali Declaration on the ASEAN Community in the Global Community of Nations, which was later referred to as Bali Concord III.

The spirit of this declaration is to ensure ASEAN's active participation and contribution in addressing the fundamental global issues of the day.

The 43rd ASEAN Summit was held in Jakarta on September 5-7, 2023, under the chairmanship of Indonesia with the theme "ASEAN Matters: Center for Growth".

Through this theme, Indonesia aims to make ASEAN relevant in facing the challenges ahead and promoting stability and peace in the region.

Indonesia will also continue to strengthen concrete cooperation so that the Southeast Asian region remains the center of world economic growth
