Jokowi Invites APEC Businesspersons to Put Investment in Indonesia

San Francisco – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) invited business at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in San Francisco, the United States, to put investment in Indonesia more aggressively and quickly.

"This is the right time to invest in Indonesia, and I hope that you can take advantage of this opportunity more aggressively and more quickly," the Head of State said at the summit on Thursday. 

According to President Widodo, Indonesia is the right and promising choice for investors to invest. This is because of the country's economy, which is projected to grow well, and its abundant economic potential.

"IMF (International Monetary Fund) predicted Indonesia's economy to grow by up to five percent in 2023, and in 2024, it is predicted at 5.1 percent," the President said.

Apart from having huge potential, from natural resources to human resources, the President stated that Indonesia also has a strong commitment to creating a conducive and competitive investment climate.

President Widodo stated that Indonesia has several priority sectors that can become investment opportunities, such as industrial downstreaming.

The President further said that as home to the largest nickel reserves in the world, Indonesia is currently building an integrated electric vehicle ecosystem, with a target of producing 600 thousand electric cars in 2030.

"Various incentives and facilities have been prepared, and I hope that APEC business people can take a big part in this sector,"

Another sector that is a priority for Indonesia is energy transition. The president remarked that currently, Indonesia has a new and renewable energy potential of 3,600 gigawatts and is also building a Green Industrial Park covering an area of 30 thousand hectares.

"For its development, investment is needed, knowledge is needed, and the latest technology is needed to produce added value while also improving the welfare of the community sustainably," President Widodo remarked. 

The other aspect that is a priority for Indonesia is development of the new capital city Nusantara in line with a forest-based and nature-based smart city concept.

The new capital also has investment potentials that are open in several sectors.

"(IKN Nusantara has) 70 percent green area, 80 percent green energy-based public transportation that is open in various sectors, infrastructure, transportation, technology, education, energy, finance, tourism, health, and housing," the Head of Stated concluded.
