Jakarta – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) signed the Revised Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE) part two on Tuesday.

Thus, Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning the second amendment to Law Number 11 of 2088 concerning ITE comes into effect.

"This law comes into force on the date of promulgation so that everyone knows about it, ordering the promulgation of this law by placing it in the State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia," wrote a copy of Law 1 of 2024 concerning ITE.

As previously reported, Members of the House Representatives approved the second revision of the Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (UU ITE).

Chairman of the Working Committee (Panja) for the ITE Bill, Abdul Kharis Almasyhari representing Commission I House of Representatives read the report on the discussion process for the revision of Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning the second amendment to the ITE Law.

According to Almasyahri, the aim of structuring and perfecting regulations regarding information management and electronic transactions is to guarantee recognition and respect for the rights and freedoms of everyone to fulfill a sense of justice.

Therefore, in the working meeting of the ITE Bill, Commission I, and the government on April 10, 2023, it was agreed that the number of DIM would be 38 DIM, consisting of 7 DIM permanent proposals, 7 DIM proposed editorial changes, and 24 DIM permanent proposals. DIM proposes substantive changes, he explained.

He said that there were several changes to the substance of the ITE Bill so it was hoped that it could be approved at this plenary meeting.

"We hope that this report can be accepted at the plenary meeting,"

Furthermore, the Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi expressed his gratitude to the House of Representatives who have discussed the second bill with the government, Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning ITE.

"We convey all the attention and cooperation of the leadership and all members of the House of Representatives. We thank you, and we hope that this second amendment to the ITE Law will be beneficial for the progress of the nation and become a field of worship, for all of us," Minister Setiadi concluded.
