Jakarta – Some public transportation services in the capital city, such as KRL, TransJakarta, and MRT Jakarta, allow eating and drinking to break the fast inside the vehicles with the certain rules during the holy month of Ramadan 2024.

"MRT Jakarta implements a policy during Ramadan to allow individuals to break their fast when in the paid area of the station when iftar time arrives," as quoted by @mrtjktinfo on Monday.

Here are the details rules of breaking the fast while in the TransJakarta and MRT areas during 2024 Ramadan.

For TransJakarta:

1. Eating and drinking inside the bus is permitted during iftar with a maximum time of 10 minutes from the Maghrib call to prayer;

2. Consuming rice and side dishes, pungent foods, and other fast food items aren't allowed inside TransJakarta buses;

3. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness together;

4. Customers can break their fast with drinking water, dates, or light snacks;

5. Customers can also go to the retail/commercial areas located at TransJakarta stops to buy food for breaking the fast.

For MRT Jakarta:

1. Permitted items are mineral water/drinks in tumblers and dates;

2. Prohibited items include eating rice and side dishes, snacks, fast food, and similar items, as well as tea, coffee, syrup, soda, and/or beverages other than mineral water;

3. Eating and/or drinking are only allowed when iftar time arrives;

4. The maximum time for eating and/or drinking is 10 minutes from the Maghrib call to prayer;

KAI Commuter implements rules allowing passengers to break their fast with light snacks and drinks up to one hour after iftar time inside the train.

Officers will also provide information about iftar time both during the journey and in the station area.

Users are advised to break their fast with light snacks and drinks in moderation and avoid strongly scented foods or beverages for mutual comfort.
