The 12 victims comprise seven males and five females. They were killed by the ensuing fire that consumed their vehicles after the collision.

While the 12 casualties were evacuated to Karawang Regional Central Hospital, injured victims were evacuated to Rosela Hospital, also in Karawang.

The collision occurred at Kilometer 58 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll road on Monday morning.

The three vehicles involved in the accident comprised two minibuses, identified as Daihatsu Gran Max, a Daihatsu Terios, and a passenger bus, operated by bus company Primajasa.

The two minibuses were burned in the accident, while the passenger bus suffered moderate damage.

The accident occurred when the Gran Max vehicle, travelling in a makeshift contraflow road eastward to Cikampek at Kilometer 58 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, abruptly swerved to the opposite lane.

The passenger bus, travelling westward to Jakarta, could not avoid the minibus that had entered the lane, thereby making the collision inevitable. The Daihatsu Terios car then collided with the bus and the Gran Max car, causing it to also catch fire.
