Minister Sumadi Urges Eid Homecoming Travelers to Return Home Early

Jakarta – Indonesian Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi urged Eid homecoming travelers to return home early, may on Friday (Apr 12) or Saturday (Apr 13).

"Therefore, as recommended by the President at that time, we should return early. If possible, tomorrow or Saturday," said the Minister at KM 70 of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, on Thursday.

According to the minister, the return flow on those two days is still quiet and will not cause congestion.

It predicted that the peak return flow will be on D+3 or Sunday (Apr 14) and D+4 or Monday (Apr 15).

"Because on Sunday and Monday there will definitely be a big increase," the Minister added.

The Ministry of Transportation together with the National Police's Traffic Corps, Jasa Marga and related parties have started preparing to avoid congestion during reverse flow.

Earlier, the Head of the National Police Traffic Corps Inspector General Police Aan Suhanan revealed that the reduction in the number of traffic accidents nationally during the Eid 2024 homecoming flow was 12 percent from April 4 to the D-day, April 10.

"We saw evaluations during the homecoming flow, starting from 4 to D-Day for accidents and then there was a decrease nationally, a 12 percent decrease from 1,723 cases in the previous period to 1,581 cases," Suhanan said on Thursday.

Likewise, fatalities (deaths) of victims resulting from traffic accidents, according to him, fell by 0.04 percent. Meanwhile, victims of serious injuries increased by 16 percent and minor injuries decreased by 18 percent.

"We compared the data with the operational period, the operational period for homecoming traffic in 2023," he concluded.
