Saudi Arabia Urges Meningitis Vaccination Ahead of Hajj Travel
- MCH 2023
Saudi Arabia – Saudi Arabia urged the meningococcal disease known as Meningitis vaccine for Umrah pilgrims in the upcoming season.
This is based on the document of health requirements and recommendations for Umrah pilgrims distributed by the Saudi Ministry of Health.
The vaccine requirements are divided into at least three parts, such as required vaccines, recommended vaccines, and precautions taken by health authorities at the entrance.
The meningitis vaccine is included in the category of vaccines required for all Umrah pilgrims over the age of one. This vaccine also applies to all countries without exception.
“The Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia issued this regulation to fulfill health requirements and recommendations for pilgrims who will travel to Saudi Arabia for Umrah 1445 (2024),” said a statement from the Saudi Ministry of Health, on Sunday (May 26).
As information, the type of meningitis vaccine accepted by the Kingdom is the Polyvalent Polysaccharide Vaccine (ACYW) within a minimum period of 10 days before arrival and no more than three years.
In addition, another type of vaccine allowed is Quadrivalent Conjugate Vaccine 1 (ACYW) with a minimum period of 10 days before arrival and within the last 5 years.
The Saudi Ministry of Health reminds the Ministry of Health of each congregation to ensure the validity period of the vaccine according to the provisions.
The type and validity period of the vaccine must be written on the vaccination certificate.
Conversely, if the type of vaccine is not included in the certificate, the vaccine is considered valid for only 3 years.
