VIVAnews - Ministry of Finance revealed that the frequency of used clothes smuggling these past months has been on the rise. Directorate General of Customs and Excise Director of Excise, Frans Rupang, said today that "the clothes are of fine quality."
According to Frans, the agency has quarantined a container containing 14 thousand piles of used clothes in the eastern coast of Sumatra. Given 30 clothes per pile, the total clothes being secured amounting to 4.2 million pairs.
"Clothes smuggling tends to increase in frequency," he said.
Frans also claimed that the low prices of imported materials do not indicate that they are shipped illegally. The reason for this is that after the implementation of the ASEAN free trade agreement, most imported goods are not applied import duty.
