VIVAnews - Ministry of Transportation will conduct an evaluation and re-arrangement of sea route in Indonesia. In addition to curbing and facilitating surveillance, it is also linked to the frequent ship accidents that recently occurred.
"We will reset the sea route comprehensively, including by raising understanding of the public shipping apart from the scheduled shipping," said Deputy Transportation Minister Bambang Susantono today.
The Ministry said this evaluation is expected to minimize ship or motor boat accidents. "So far, the accidents taking place in Indonesian waters have been allegedly caused by the lack of supervision around the site," he said.
Ahead, Bambang went on, in collaboration with a number of parties including provincial governments, the ministry will conduct joint evaluation to improve the shipping system. This includes the plan of adding the number of ships in remote islands.
"As regards that issue, we will discuss about it further by involving the private sector for the procurement of ships. Meanwhile the government will conduct a study on opening new route that has not been put into commercial use," he said.
