VIVAnews – The West Jakarta District Court sentenced an accused terrorist, Abu Tholut a.k.a. Agus Hamsah to eight years in prison. The panel of judges found Abu Tholut guilty of being involved in military training in Aceh.
The judges deemed Abu Tholut was found guilty of violating the criminal law for possessing unlicensed weapon and being involved in the Aceh military training.
"You are sentenced to eight years in prison minus the detention period and the evidence is confiscated by the state. For this ruling, you are entitled to an appeal," said chairman of the panel of judges Musa Arif during the trial, today.
Abu Tholut’s lawyer said he would mull over the verdict. Justice Musa gave Abu Tholut seven days to respond to it.
When met after the trial, Abu, who was wearing a brown batik, looked relaxed. "There's nothing special. I would file an appeal through my lawyer," he said.
To secure the trial, the police deployed 85 personnel. "Currently, we put officers on standby for guarding eleven terrorist defendants," says Tanjung Duren police chief, Pol. Comr. Dwi Indra Lasmana.
