RI Hits 6 Pct of Growth in Yudhoyono's Era

VIVAnews - Among the economic growth target of other presidential candidates, Finance Minister adviser Chatib Basri is more optimistic with target set by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY).

Based on his observation towards the realization and the work of the current administration, he assumes that Indonesia already has a strong and appropriate economic foundation.

“Due to the global crisis, the economists all over the world predicted that Indonesia would only grow by around 2 percent. But, in the first quarter of 2009, the grow touched 4.4 percent, which is good”, Basri said after listening to Boediono’s Resurgence Day speech at the Stovia building, on Wednesday, May 20.

He also predicted that by the year 2010 or 2011, the economy would have possibly grown by 5 percent. “I think that as soon as the condition is stable, the growth would go back to 6 percent,” he said.

He also said that SBY is on the right track with his economic programs and policies. In 2008, when the development and economic acceleration programs which support the investment basis were implemented, the growth achieved the highest point.

“During Mega’s era from 2001 to 2004, the median of economic growth was 4.5 percent while from 2004 to 2008, the median had reached 6 percent,” he said. Therefore, the realization of SBY’s 7 percent economic growth target is expected to be reached by 2014. “All we need is keeping the strategy”, he said.
