It has been sweeping northwards over China since Friday when it careened into southern Fujian province after battering the Philippines as a typhoon.

As the typhoon moves inland, cumulative rainfall is predicted to reach 100 millimeters (mm) or more over an area of 220,000 square kilometers (km) with a possible population of 130 million people affected.

"Doksuri's strength continues to weaken but its impact is not over yet," the China Meteorological Agency said.

By the end of this week, small and medium-sized rivers in southern Beijing, central and western Hebei, eastern Shanxi, and northern Henan may overflow above the alert level, while flash floods and geological disasters may occur in mountainous areas.

The Beijing government suspended sports activities and temporarily closed tourist attractions and parks. The city's flood control department has mobilized 203,230 rescue workers and evacuated 3,031 people, according to local media reports.

Doksuri is the strongest typhoon to hit China this year and the second strongest to hit Fujian Province since Typhoon Meranti struck in 2016. Typhoon Doksuri also caused schools and businesses to close, while workers on offshore oil and gas platforms were evacuated, according to state media reports.
