Government to Revitalize Marunda Flats After the Roof Collapsed

Jakarta – The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will revitalize the Marunda flat (rusun) Block C, North Jakarta which collapsed some time ago.

Acting Jakarta Public Housing and Settlement Areas Agency, Retno Sulistyaningrum revealed the results of research from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) that said the block C building in Marunda flat was no longer suitable for habitation.

"DKI Jakarta Public Housing and Settlement Areas Agency will plan the revitalization of Rusunawa Marunda because according to BRIN's research results, this building is structurally unfit as a result of the building inspection conducted by BRIN," she said in Jakarta, on Wednesday.

"The incident at Rusunawa Marunda on August 30 at 9 pm local time. Dak concrete in block C5 has cracked. The location is around the back hall," she added.

Then, the DKI Jakarta Government will relocate residents to Nagrak flats, "A total of 451 families who are residents of Block C1-C5 will be relocated to Nagrak Flats after further socialization on Thursday, August 31, 2023," 

"Until now, 349 families have taken the lottery to get the unit, the remaining 102 families will follow the process of taking the unit the following day. Currently, residents are starting to transport their belongings gradually. It is expected that all Block C residents will have moved in by September," Sulistyaningrum explained. 

She emphasized that there were no casualties due to the roof collapse in Rusunawa Blok C Marunda. The relocation appeal has been carried out since 2022.

"After the incident, UPRS II has re-socialized Cluster C residents (Block C1-C5) and residents cooperatively agreed to be relocated for safety,"
