London – The British Prime Minister (PM) Rishi Sunak on Friday announced that American XL Bully dogs to be banned in the United Kingdom by the end of the year. This animal is considered as a dangerous animal.

There have been a series of attacks involving the canine breed, including a fatal one in Staffordshire, England

Minister Sunak has asked government ministers to legally define the characteristics of the American XL Bully with the assistance of police and canine experts.

This breed is not recognized by groups such as the Kennel Club in Britain or the American Kennel Club in the United States.

"It is not currently a breed defined in law, so this vital first step must happen fast,’’ Sunak said in a video statement posted to X.

"We will then ban the breed under the Dangerous Dogs Act, and new laws will be in place by the end of the year,"

The government is under pressure to take action after an 11-year-old girl was attacked and seriously injured by an American XL Bully two weeks ago in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Concerns are growing after a man was also killed in an attack that may have involved this breed of dog.

"American XL Bully dogs are a danger to our society, especially our children," PM Sunak informed.

"I share the nation's horror at the videos we have all seen recently."

Four dog breeds are currently banned in the UK: the pit bull terrier, Japanese tosa, dogo Argentino, and fila Brasileiro.

Some advocates are calling for the American XL Bully, which was originally bred from the American pit bull terrier, to be added to the list as they believe that there are more harmful characteristics embedded in the animal.

The XL Bully is not recognized as a breed by the Kennel Club in the UK, which states that no dog breed is inherently dangerous.

The organization revealed that bans on certain breeds do not address the most significant factors contributing to attacks on humans, particularly irresponsible dog owners who train their dogs to be aggressive.
