The new format was immediately released by ESL organizer, A22 Sports, shortly after the European Court decision was issued.

As known, the European Super League was first launched in April 2021 by 12 big European clubs such as Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man United, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, AC Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

However, threats and pressure from UEFA and FIFA made the ESL idea wither before it developed.

Several clubs, especially those from the English League, have chosen to withdraw from ESL.

Talks about holding ESL have resurfaced after the European Court of Justice said banning clubs from joining breakaway leagues was "unlawful."

It's said that UEFA and FIFA cannot have a monopoly in football. Each club is given the freedom to determine which competition they want to participate in.

This decision by the referee makes A22 Sports even more confident. They immediately released the new ESL format. Soon, ESL will be attended by 64 teams with three castes.

There will also be an ESL competition for women's teams, which will be participated by 32 clubs from two castes.

For the ESL men's competition, there will be three leagues, namely Star, Gold and Blue. For Star and Gold each there will be 16 clubs participating, each of which is the best in the two groups.
