VIVAnews – Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Amir Syamsudin, denied the news saying the US government has set up Interrogation Bureaus in a number of prisons in Indonesia.
The information was released by the Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) through its press statement.
“Please read the release carefully,” said today, Feb 16.
For this program, 14 officers of the Department of Justice and Human Rights have gone to the US to visit the Guantanamo prison. “There was no visit to Guantanamo. We only did a comparative study,” he said.
Amir called for IPW to be more careful and thorough in providing information to the public.
Earlier, IPW said the Department of Justice and Human Rights have permitted the US government to build Interrogation Bureaus in a number of prisons. The Department also received Rp1 trillion worth of aid every year.
The US government and FBI received free concession to question the inmates in a number of prisons, especially those related with terrorism, at any time.
The offices are said to have occupied 4 x 7 meters area, equipped by controller’s mirror room, examination beam lights, recorders, tapping devices, etc.
During the interrogation, the US will be escorted by officers of Directorate General of Correctional Facilities. The US names it De-radicalization program. 14 officers of the Department of Justice and Human Rights were sent to the US for the program.
“IPW condemned this project because it violates the nation’s sovereignty in relation with the category of selling the nation and violating the inmates’ rights. IPW reminded that the inmates are not allowed to be further interrogated because their legal process had been completed. If the inmates were involved in any kinds of criminal acts, police will have the rights to make quizzes,” said IPW’s coordinator, Neta S. Pane.
