VIVAnews – The national Meteorology, Climatology & Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in Region V Jayapura warned fishermen in Papua not to set sail in the coming days following tidal waves in the Papuan waters that may reach up to six meters in height.

“The tidal waves on the waters of Merauke, Biak Numfor, Sorong and Papua’s eastern area may reach between three and six meters in height,” he said on Wednesday.

The high tide could even reach over six meters high around the eastern part of the Arafuru Sea and Yos Sudarso waters.

The agency also said that rain will continue to hit Papua this month.

“In the next few days, moderate to high rainfalls combined with strong winds will hit Papua, especially in its southern waters. The average wind speed is around 5-10 knots,” he said.
