Elections Commission Under Attack

VIVAnews - The Elections Commission (KPU) of South Sulawesi had to stop the vote real counting process on Friday, April 17. The system is intruded by a hacker.

"It was last night. We had actually received report on this two days ago. However, we did not pay attention to the matter," said Head of Technical Division of KPU of South Sulawesi, Andi Arifin.

He said that KPU of South Sulawesi found out about the breach in the networked IT system after receiving report from the political parties's campaigning teams as well as legislator candidates. They monitored that the vote counting has always changed in the last two days.

"Most reports came from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) and the Functional Group (Golkar) Party. Two days ago, the parties' votes almost reached a thousand. Last night, it only remained 37 votes," he told VIVAnews.

The technical committee immediately contacted the KPU of South Sulawesi on Wednesday. It was decided that the counting had to be suspended.

For the time being, KPU of South Sulawesi has reported the breach to South Sulawesi police department. In fact, according to Arifin, police has taken notice of the hacker's identity.
