VIVA – The Indonesian Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that the Indonesian economy in the first quarter of 2023 grew by 5.03 percent or higher amid global uncertainty. In fact, Indonesian economic growth was recorded as higher than China and the United States.
The Minister also explained that the Indonesian economy in ASEAN was the country with the highest growth after the Philippines at 6.4 percent and Malaysia at 5.6 percent.
"Of the countries that have released economic growth, Indonesia has experienced high growth. Only higher than Malaysia and the Philippines," said Minister Indrawati at the APBN press conference on Monday.

According to her, with this number, the Indonesian economy is the highest of various countries in the world, both in the ASEAN and European regions. This happened as a result of the increase in high benchmark interest rates which led to an increase in inflation.
"The majority of countries in Europe and ASEAN are hit by the impact of rising interest rates and inflation which makes their economies weaken," she remarked.
As for the first quarter of 2023, several countries have released their country's economic growth. For example, China grew 4.5 percent, Saudi Arabia grew 3.9 percent, and Mexico grew 3.9 percent.
"Mexico also grew 3.9 percent because the policy rate rose above 11 percent," she said.
Then, Vietnam grew 3.3 percent, Thailand grew 2.7 percent, the United States grew 1.6 percent, and Europe and Japan each grew 1.3 percent. South Korea grew 0.8 percent, Singapore grew 0.1 percent, and Russia only grew -1.9 percent.
"Russia is because of the war. But the United Kingdom, France, Singapore, South Korea, and Japan are all relatively weak," the Minister informed.
