The number of foreign tourist visits in the first semester of this year is equivalent to 88.12 percent of total foreign tourist visits throughout 2022 or an increase of 250.33 percent compared to the first semester of 2022.

Meanwhile, when compared to the 2023 target of foreign tourist arrivals, the value is equivalent to 86.49 percent of the lower limit target (6 million) or 61.05 percent of the upper limit target (8.5 million).

Based on the country of origin of foreign tourists in June 2023, Singapore ranks first with a percentage of 16.41 percent, Malaysia 15.88 percent, Australia 12.47 percent, India 6.48 percent, and China 5.88 percent.

"So we should be grateful and we can provide projections that this year everything can go according to plan," Minister Uno remarked.

"Then the target of 8.5 million will be exceeded significantly. The projection figure is around 15 to 20 percent," he added.

Regarding tourism, Indonesia spans some 17,000 islands, from Sumatra in the west to Papua more than 5,000 kilometers to the east by way of Java and Bali. On them live 1,300 distinct ethnic groups speaking 700 different languages.

Yet at the same time, Indonesians right across the archipelago are able to unite under one flag and a multitude of shared cultural traditions to be preserved by every generation.
