"The discussion as to when [Umar Patek] is taken home is still underway," said BNPT Chief, Ins. Gen. Ansyaad Mbai, today, July 25.
According to Ansyaad, expected return of Umar Patek will not be part of deportation plot since he is considered high-profile criminal. Umar Patek is also believed as being tied to international terrorist networks and held responsible of terror actions in Indonesia.
"It includes those occurring in Bima, Palu, Poso," he said.
Ansyaad said there is interconnectedness amongst terrorist cells existing in Sumatra, Java, Poso, Ambon, Kalimantan, Bima, to name but a few. Concerning the explosion in an Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren) in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, Abrori and Firdaus, chiefs of the Pesantren, were proved parts of Jamaah Ansharut Tauhid, a group that terrorist defendant Abu Bakar Baasyir helms.
"Umar Patek is a first class bomb maker. He assembled the bombs used in the Bali Bombing I," he said.
