VIVAnews – The Indonesian government said in a statement that renegotions over mining concessions are normal and important for both the companies and the authorities.
“We want the contracts to be in line with the Coal and Mineral Mining Law, while they want a talk on investment term extension,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Rajasa on Tuesday.
The scheduled renegotiations of the mining contracts, he further commented, is applicable to all mining companies in Indonesia. The authorities are reminded not to be worry about the plan as long as they uphold the principle of respecting each other.
“Thus, renegotiation isn’t a taboo as long as we still respect the contracts and not being partial about them,” said Hatta.
The government puts renegotiation into timetable since since mining companies and the government are bound with royalty issue. “So far, there is a difference between the provision in the Coal and Mining Law and the numbers stated in the work contract,” he said.
It was reported that the government through the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry recorded that at least 118 production sharing contractors will have their mining concessions reviewed due to state loss allegations.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, provided the report, called for renegotiations over the mining concessions.
