VIVA – In welcoming the 2023 U-20 World Cup which will be held on May 20 to June 11, 2023, in Indonesia, a typical Indonesian one-horned rhinoceros named "Bacuya" is chosen as the inspiration for the mascot for the 2023 U-20 World Cup.

FIFA with PSSI and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) has officially launched Bucaya as the mascot for the 2023 U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.

Bacuya, which means rhino (Badak), horn (Cula), and light (Cahaya), appeared wearing the red and white jersey of the Indonesian national football team to be introduced to the public at the Car Free Day (CFD) event at Jakarta, last weekend on Sunday, September 18, 2022.

"Bacuya will play an important role in getting children and families to come to the stadium and see the world's best young footballers compete for glory next year," The Director of FIFA Tournament, Jaime Yarza explained.

Bacuya represents the energy and enthusiasm of football players and fans in Indonesia.

The energy of this rhino character is expected to bring joy and excitement to youth and football fans throughout Indonesia and the world.

Bacuya with colorful horns that light up symbolizes the guardian of young talent as well as a beacon for the future of football, especially since the 2023 U-20 World Cup will be a stage for the best football talents to become future legends.

“We thank FIFA for accommodating our willingness to show what is in Indonesia. So, the One-horned Rhinoceros only exists in Indonesia, so it has been explained that the 2023 U-20 World Cup will be held in Indonesia," PSSI General Chair, Mochamad Iriawan said.
