VIVA – Jeans are an item of clothing that almost everyone in the world has. Jeans will always fit in mix n match with any outfit. Jeans became fashionable during the 1950s and ‘60s, where Jeans played a key role. In the 1970s, jeans were considered casual wear in the US.
By the latter half of the 20th century, jeans as casual wear became a standard of international fashion. Soon enough, clothing boutiques and fashion houses began creating their styles, distressing and washing the denim to create a diverse range of styles.
According to multiple studies, denim jeans are now considered a preferred garment for 70-80% of all US citizens, irrespective of age or gender. They’re constantly seen in all forms of media, such as movies, television series, and reality shows. From both social and cultural perspectives, jeans are immensely prevalent in all aspects of modern society.

History of Jeans
At first, jeans were made for the manual workers of gold mines in America because the material from these jeans was more durable and strong. At that time, one of the wives of the miners met a tailor named Jacob Davis.
Then, Jacob Davis tried to make pants from denim or jeans at a store owned by Levi Strauss. Jacob began to design pants with rivets that were attached to several points of the pants that were prone to tearing. The rivets used by Jacob are rivets that we can see above the jeans pocket.
The pants that Jacob made were very suitable for mining workers. So, Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss became two important figures in the history of the creation of jeans. Levi Strauss himself was the first to introduce denim to America in 1853.
Before mass-producing it, Jacob as a tailor who designed and made jeans thought about patenting his invention. With Levi who introduced the denim fabric, the two decided to patent their invention.

Until finally the patent rights for these jeans were obtained at the United States patent office on May 20, 1873. So, May 20, 1873, was designated as the birthday of jeans. The patent that Jacob and Levi had registered was named Levi Strauss & Co.
The Levi Strauss & Co. brand also became the first company that was established to produce jeans. The first jeans were designed like duck pants from brown cotton. In this design, there are two pockets at the front and one pocket at the back using rivets to hold it in place.
Along with the times, jeans are getting more and more pockets and on the back of the pants, there is also Levi's jeans logo. The name Levi's jeans became popular even today.
