Indonesia Holds Cultural Festival in Oregon-United States

VIVA – The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) San Francisco held the “Indonesian Night 2023” festival in Corvallis, Oregon State, United States last weekend. This festival featured a variety of archipelago dances performed by Indonesian students.

The largest annual cultural festival on the North West Coast of the US raised the theme “Pentas Seni Nusantara” and presented various regional performances in Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke, the Consulate General said in a statement on Tuesday.

The organizers and performers of the festival event wore high school children's costumes plus room settings with benches and tables like in a classroom that brought nostalgic nuances of school culture in Indonesia.

"Congratulations to the students and other Indonesian diasporas for successfully presenting the largest Indonesian cultural arts activity on the North West Coast of the US," said Indonesian Consul General in San Francisco, Prasetyo Hadi.

As the name "Indonesian Night: Pentas Seni Nusantara", the nighttime cultural festival that has been going on for the past dozen years aims to promote the plurality of Indonesian culture, especially in Oregon and the North West Coast region of the US.

"The Indonesian Consulate General in San Francisco continues to encourage various Indonesian artistic creativity to further strengthen Indonesia's positive profile regarding its cultural diversity to the local US and other foreign communities," Prasetyo said.

He emphasized that the role of the Indonesian community and diaspora abroad, including Indonesians and friends of Indonesia, is also very important for Indonesia's diplomacy strategy.

According to the Indonesian Consulate General in San Francisco, the festival was attended by hundreds of US students and local people, as well as the Indonesian diaspora.

"They were seen enjoying the excitement of various traditional music and dance performances, such as Balinese gamelan, Javanese gamelan, various Sumatran dances, Dadas Dance from Kalimantan, as well as pop music performed by students from Sumatra and Papua," the Consulate said.
